We can help organisations

NHS Inform list 5 steps for mental wellbeing ..Connect, Be active, Keep learning, Give to others, Be mindful . We can help organisations help their people to look after their mental wellbeing by taking a positive, proactive approach to mental health at work.

Mental Health is an essential organisational concern with strong relationships between employee wellbeing, motivation and performance and is one of the major health challenges in Scotland with one in three people affected by a mental health problem such as depression and anxiety.

Our training courses are delivered by Bacp/Babcp Accredited Counsellors who have helped many clients (nurses, policemen/women, teachers, doctors, managers, engineers, accountants, tradespeople, administrators, retail workers, students......) with their mental health. We know about poor mental health and how it can seriously affect a persons ability to contribute meaningfully to their personal and professional life.

At Counsellor and Coach we have a number of short affordable training courses to help organisations support their people. Courses include Mental Health awareness, Stress management and resilience, Mindfulness, Better conversations at work and also Organisational Therapy Days to underpin workforce wellbeing. Please contact us to find out more.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for menopausal symptoms

CBT is recommended by NICE (National Institute for Health and Care) as a treatment for relieving menopausal symptoms including hot flushes/night sweats, anxiety, stress, low mood and sleep disturbance during the menopause transition.

CBT looks at how thoughts, behaviours, feelings (emotions) and physical sensations are all connected. When thoughts and emotional factors are negative this can lead to being locked in a vicious cycle making us feel worse and worse. CBT provides skills and techniques to break this cycle increasing self awareness and self management to improve quality of life.

Counsellorandcoach deliver “taster”, group and personalised 1:1 four week programmes that provide tools to help normalise and manage menopausal symptoms through group exercises and in between session work.

We also provide menopause awareness training for managers. “Whether you're a line manager in a large business or the leader of a small company, chances are you employ or manage at least one woman. And most women will experience menopausal symptoms at some stage in their working life. But how confident do you think a member of your team would feel to talk to you about the menopause?” cipd.co.uk

Liz McHard, Managing Counsellor

Helping you help yourself

The success of counselling is often more about the relationship between the client and the counsellor rather than the counselling modality which is why at Counsellor and Coach we offer person centred, solution focused and CBT counselling from experienced practitioners in their own specialisms.

My name is Liz McHard and I am a Bacp accredited psychotherapist and managing counsellor at Counsellor and Coach. Click here to read about me and the team.

After being made redundant I felt worthless and overwhelmed. Liz’s approach gave me back my confidence that I thought I had lost. I now have a new job and feel mentally well
— Anon, 52
After my first conversation with Liz, I instinctively knew that her approach would help me. She took time to build up a relationship with me where I felt understood and held which helped me understand my behaviour which allowed me to clear my mind and move forward.
— Anon.
‘I was at a very difficult and scary place...really overwhelmed. You helped me more than I could of imagined. The powerful mental healing tools that we worked on together really enabled me to get back to my normal self and help me move on with my life. I am eternally greatful
— Joanne, 45
I was so nervous to make the first step, Liz made me feel welcome and understood

FAQ

What is my commitment?

The decision to commence/end counselling or coaching is entirely yours. Our ethos is to make help easily available and accessible and the therapeutic alliance between counsellor and coach is at the heart of what we do. The agreement to work together is made at the first session. It is not an agreement for a number of sessions rather an agreement on what the work will address. The number of sessions will always rest with you, the client. Some clients take longer some shorter. In general, people benefit from 4-6 sessions although each individual is different.

What about confidentiality?

All our counsellors are bound by the code of ethics of the BACP Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy. We understand that it can be difficult to take the first step in asking for help and work hard to make the process as easy and confidential as possible from the initial call, to meeting you at the first appointment and the continuing confidentiality for subsequent sessions.

What is the difference between counselling and coaching?

Counselling focuses on understanding, resolving and coming to terms with the past and any limiting beliefs and behaviours that may be causing distress. It allows you to find a safe space to gain perspective and clarity of problems where you can be open and honest about what is going on.

Coaching is future focused, goal orientated identifying strengths and weaknesses and developing plans for the future.

What will the first session look like?

As Counselling and Coaching can deal with sensitive and often painful areas of people’s lives we take time to ensure we are the most appropriate help for each client. After an initial discussion by telephone or email, the first session will ensure that you feel comfortable with the approach and with your Counsellor. The session will last 50 minutes where you can discuss in more detail your reasons for Counselling/Coaching, where the roles of both Counsellor/Coach and client are explored and at the practical matters of working together can be understood.

How much will it cost?

Sessions cost £50 per 50 minutes. Payment by PayPal, cash or cheque. We hope to offer online counselling soon.
